Pearson floor ashurn

The Pearson ashurn (on right) was first produced for the Toronto International Air Terminal One project ( 1957 to 1964) and later was used for all of the new airports of that era. 8" diameter and 20" high, it was 1/4" thick machine steel with a mirror copper nickel chrome finish. Stan White, an Architect with Canada Public Works was the specifier, Architects for the building were  John B. Parkin. While the ashurns were heavy (40 lbs.) in order to make theft difficult, it was reported that a passenger at Calgary was caught leaving the terminal with two of them.

The smaller urn shown and the pipe knocker inserts were optional designs at the time.
The Pearson model complete wth pipe knocker was used at Expo 67.
